It appears that spring, in all her sweetness, intends to make quite the entrance this year. And where better for such a debut than the beloved Sunderland Maple Syrup Festival, returning for its 29th annual celebration on April 11 and 12, 2026.
Indeed, while villages may have their balls and soirées, Sunderland boasts something far more tempting: liquid gold—and the townsfolk intend to drown us in it.
But as all seasoned social observers know, no grand affair begins without a ceremonial flourish. And so, on March 14, 2026, the community gathered at Harlaine Farms for the distinguished First Tapping Ceremony, an honoured ritual marking the very first drop of syrup for the season. As we approach the main festivities on April 11–12, allow me to share what delights await.
A Sweet Tradition
From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both days, Sunderland will transform into a grand promenade of vendors, music, animals, and activities befitting to all families. River and Church Streets, the Town Hall, and the Sunderland Public School will be brimming with merchants offering everything from maple confections to handcrafted treasures.
Should you wish to witness syrup-making firsthand, the ever-popular bus tours to Harlaine Maple Products return, where visitors may explore both pioneer-era methods and modern production.
Animal lovers will be pleased to know that near the arena (regrettably not available this year due to construction), festival-goers will still enjoy petting zoo creatures, pony rides, draft horses, Soper Creek Wildlife Rescue presentations, and forging demonstrations by Fallen Willow Forge.
The beloved pancake breakfasts at the Sunderland Legion will run both festival days from morning through early afternoon. One hardly needs reminding that such gatherings are as known for their social intrigue as they are for their syrup-soaked stacks.
And for those who prefer a spectacle.
A Most Historic Revelation: The Sunderland & District Historical Society Exhibit
One would be remiss not to mention a particularly tantalizing attraction certain to set Brock murmuring. Hidden away for more than a century, a 1909 Vroomanton United Church time capsule originally placed within the church’s cornerstone has been unearthed following the building’s sale. Its long slumbering contents will be revealed to the public at the Sunderland Museum during the 2 day festival.
A Duel for the Ages: Blades of Glory Returns
And yet, dear readers, history is not only to be admired behind glass. It is to be witnessed in the flesh—steel clashing, crowds cheering, knights bowing with impeccable form. For this reason, brace yourselves for the triumphant return of Blades of Glory, whose thrilling medieval demonstrations promise to captivate audiences of all ages. Appearing both festival days at 12:00 noon and 2:30 p.m. near the arena for 40 minute performances. Such spirited combat is sure to inspire excitement and perhaps a touch of scandal as eager spectators jostle for the finest vantage point.

With such delectable offerings from syrup to spectacles, from traditions to tantalizing new amusements the 2026 Sunderland Maple Syrup Festival promises to be the most bewitching yet. One might even say it will have taste buds tingling.
